Our Continuity Commitment
What Happens If Killswitch Shuts Down?
It's the right question to ask any service holding your most important documents. Here is our answer, in writing.
6 months' notice
If Killswitch ever winds down, we commit to announcing it at least six months before the service stops — by email to every account, on this site, and in the changelog.
A guaranteed export window
The entire notice period is an export window: full access to download everything you've stored, with repeated reminder emails so nobody's files are left behind.
Your data was always yours
You can download every file you've stored at any time — today, not just during a wind-down. And because everything is encrypted with keys only you control, the only people who can ever read your files are you and the beneficiaries you choose.
The honest fine print
Automatic delivery depends on the service running — that's true of every deadman switch, and we won't pretend otherwise. It's exactly why your files are fully exportable and why we recommend downloading a copy periodically.
Note this commitment is about a company wind-down, which is different from your subscription lapsing: if you simply stop paying, our always-fires guarantee applies — your set-up switch still fires on schedule.
