Receiving a Delivery
What You'll Receive
Got an email or text from Killswitch? Here's what it means, how to tell it's really for you, and exactly how to view what was left for you. No account, no app, and no password needed.
What the notification looks like
Someone set up Killswitch to make sure you'd receive something from them — a document, a note, a video message, a journal — if something ever happened to them, or on a date they chose themselves. When that moment comes, you'll get an email from Killswitch <notify@killswitch.app>. The subject line leads with their name, not the app's:
Subject
Alex Rivera shared 3 items with you
Inside, you'll see their full name and email address, any personal message they left you — front and center, not buried below a logo or a security notice — and a list of what they shared, each with its own Access button. If you have a phone number on file, you'll also get a short text message pointing you to the same link.
You will not see the name of the "switch" they set up internally — just their identity and, if they left one, their message to you.
Is this legitimate?
A few things to check before you click anything:
- The email comes from notify@killswitch.app.
- The sender's real name and email address are printed right in the message — this isn't a generic "you have a delivery" notice, it names the specific person who set this up for you.
- There's no urgency, countdown, or threat in the copy. Killswitch never asks you to "act now" or pressures you to click quickly.
- You're never asked for a password, payment, or account information anywhere in this flow.
If you weren't expecting anything from this person, you can safely ignore the email — nothing happens if you never click the link. If you're still unsure, reach out to hello@killswitch.app and we can help you verify it.
Claiming what was shared with you
- Open the link. Tap Access next to an item in the email, or the link in the text message. This does not immediately show you anything — it's deliberate. The page opens to a confirmation screen first, so nothing is revealed until you take an action yourself (this also keeps automated email scanners from accidentally "opening" it on your behalf).
- Enter the email address it was sent to. Type in the exact email address the delivery was addressed to — this confirms you're the intended recipient. No account, sign-up, or password is required; it's just that one email address. You get a handful of attempts before the page temporarily locks you out, so double-check for typos.
- Click to view. Once your email is confirmed, click through to decrypt and load the content. From here you can read, watch, or download what was shared.
What you can see and do
Documents
Preview supported files right in your browser (PDFs and images), or download the original file.
Notes
Read the note directly on the page, copy the text, or download it as a file.
Video & audio messages
Play the recording right on the page, or download it to keep.
Notebooks & journals
Read entries in order, search across the whole journal, play any recorded entries inline, and download the entire notebook to keep at once.
Folders
Browse everything that was shared as a group, open individual items or nested notebooks in place, and download the whole folder at once.
Whatever you're looking at, download a copy if you want to keep it — save it to your computer or your own cloud storage. It's yours once it's shared with you.
About access receipts
Every time this link is opened, it's logged — including the IP address it was accessed from. You'll get your own confirmation email (an access receipt) once you view it, and the person who set this up gets a notification too, when they're reachable. This isn't about tracking you — it means there's an independent record, for both of you, that the delivery actually arrived and was seen.
Can't find the email?
- Check your spam or junk folder.
- Search your inbox for notify@killswitch.app or the name of the person you expect it from.
- These links don't expire by default — if you find it days or weeks later, it should still work, unless the sender has specifically revoked it.
Still can't locate it? Email hello@killswitch.app and we'll help however we can.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to create an account?
No. Verifying the email address the delivery was addressed to is the only thing required — no sign-up, no app install, no password.
Is this a scam?
It shouldn't be, if the sender's name and email address printed in the message are someone you actually know, and it comes from notify@killswitch.app. See "Is this legitimate?" above. If you're ever unsure, email hello@killswitch.app before clicking anything.
How long is the link valid?
These links don't have a default expiration date — they stay live until the sender revokes them. We still recommend downloading anything you want to keep, since a link could be revoked or a sender's account could change in the future.
What if I enter the wrong email address?
You'll see an error and can try again. After several incorrect attempts, the page temporarily locks to protect against guessing — wait a bit and try again with the exact email address the delivery was sent to.
Is my information encrypted?
Yes — everything in Killswitch is encrypted at rest and in transit. Content is only decrypted for you after you complete the email verification step.
