Video & Audio Messages

Record a personal message straight from your browser — no separate app, no editing software. Recordings are encrypted at rest and in transit, the same as documents and notes, and deliver to your chosen beneficiaries just like any other item in your Library.

Recording a message

From your Library, choose Record to open the recorder. Grant camera and microphone access when your browser asks, then toggle between Video and Audio mode before you start — audio-only recordings skip the camera entirely and just capture sound. Tap the record button to start, and tap it again to stop.

On a phone or tablet, you can flip between front and back cameras mid-setup, and the recorder adapts to portrait or landscape orientation automatically.

Reviewing and uploading

After you stop recording, you land on a review screen where you can play back what you recorded before deciding what to do with it. Give it a title if you want one — leave it blank and Killswitch names it for you automatically, like "Recording · May 30, 2026 · 3:42 PM" . Not happy with the take? Choose Retake to discard it and record again from scratch.

When you're ready, tap Upload. Killswitch uploads the recording directly to storage, encrypted at rest and in transit, up to the same 200 MB per-file limit that applies to every upload — your total storage still depends on your plan: 5 GB on Starter, 50 GB on Pro, or 100 GB on Legacy.

Attaching to notes

A recording doesn't have to stand alone. Open a note and use the insert-media toolbar to record a message directly into the note's body, or use Attach to link an existing recording to a note as a separate Attachments-section item. See Notes for how attachments and inline media work together.

Recordings live in your Library alongside documents and notes, so you can tag them, move them into a folder, or organize them the same way you would any other item — see Folders & Library and Tags .

Delivering to beneficiaries

Attach a recording to a deadman switch and assign it to one or more beneficiaries — when the switch fires, each beneficiary gets a secure link to play the message you recorded for them. See the Deadman Switches guide for how switches, schedules, and beneficiaries fit together, and What You'll Receive for what a beneficiary sees when they play back a video or audio message.
